Profit - At what price???

Everyone gets into business to make a profit. It would be stupid if that was not your target. But how far would one go to achieve the desired profits?

The recent baby formula fiasco in China just proves how greedy some people can be. The use of Melamine in the baby formula is causing gallstones to form in the baby's kidneys. I felt for the parents whose kids have been afflicted with the problem. China's one child policy makes the suffering and grief for these parents even worse. Doesn't it make you seething mad when man's pursuit of profits is at the expense of a little child?

4 deaths and 53,000 sick babies later, the Chinese govt are on a witch-hunt to find the wrong-doers. It seems the owners have disappeared, naturally! The interesting thing to note here is that the producers, Sanlu Grp, already knew abt the problem in December 2007 and chose to ignore the complains received. I hope the Chinese authorities catch the culprits soon! I say throw them then to the parents of the 53,000 kids for justice to be served!

Another interesting thing that came out of this fiasco is that the head of Quality Control in the Chinese Govt has resigned, taking full responsibility of the incident. Now, how nice would it be if one of our ministers would do the honourable thing and take responsibility for their actions instead of blaming others! But I guess that's just fantasy thinking in Bolehland!

Very good point you made on accountability. Even a fooking stone monolith like the Chinese Communist Party seems to understand the concept but the fookheads in BN canna get into their thick skulls. (But then again the Malaysian public are a forgiving bunch who insist that they are the BEST people to rule this country, GE after GE).

Me wifey made a very pertinent point bout this tainted milk fiasco. China worked so hard to show the world IT HAD ARRIVED with the summer Olympics. All that good work has vanished with this milk tragedy . . .

Yes, all the hard work down the drain! And don forget the hundreds of millions spent that could have been put to better use. I guess every country will have their own set of problems.

yea, SanLu is Fonterra (NZ)'s venture partner. it's really huge and bad. apparently the Chinese people wanted to make the formula appear to be higher in protein thus the VERY STUPID move of inserting Melamine. Fonterra's the giant dairy export co. of NZ and if it suffers, bad news for NZ. SanLu is also the biggest baby formula distributor in China. it's sad..

Sen : Guess it's not good for Fontera's image as well. Have Fontera's other pdts been boycotted by New Zealanders?

Frankly, I really think pdts from China are high risk products. First it started with toys having too much lead, then luncheon meat and now this. Makes you wonder abt all other pdts coming out fm there don't you?
